M. Sc. in Computer Science Co-op
Co-operative Education gives you an opportunity to gain work experience and network with professionals in your chosen field by integrating valuable job experience with classroom learning. Placements can be used as a vehicle to explore employment in companies of varying sizes, in a variety of fields and in differing locations. Most importantly, you will make contacts and build your network which will help you find employment upon graduation. There is no better way than this to begin formulating your future career plans.
Program Requirements:
Candidates meeting the following minimum admission requirements will be considered. However, the number of available spots is limited, so only the most qualified candidates will be admitted:
· Minimum 8.0 cumulative GPA;
· Strong communication skills;
· Must be enrolled in full-time studies;
· Must not be on a leave of absence when taking Co-op 101 or during the job competition;
· Must not be planning on taking any courses during the scheduled 8 month work term;
· Must receive approval from their faculty advisor to participate in co-op (student and advisor must sign attached release form)
· Must not end their program on a work term (i.e., must be returning to school following the completion of the work term).
How to apply:
Students interested in applying to co-op must submit the following items to coop@uwindsor.ca or in person to the Room 111, Dillon Hall, Student Success Centre - North, no later than 12:00pm, Friday, January 24th, 2014:
· Cover letter addressed to Ms. Romina Oulevey, indicating reasons as to why you should be admitted into the program
· Resume
· Signed co-op release form
Please find attached a resume checklist and sample, for your reference. International students must have a valid study permit and if selected will be requested to submit a copy.
Admission interviews will take place January 27th – 30th. Emails will be sent to all candidates, notifying them of their outcome, by end of day Friday, January 31st, 2014.
Program Timeline:
Winter 2014
· Co-op 101: Employment Readiness Skills – This is a mandatory 4 week non credited course that students must complete. This course is a combination of on-line and in-person activities.
Summer 2014
· Participation in the job competition
Fall 2014 and Winter 2015
· Completion of an 8 month work term with the same employer
Summer 2015
· Submission of a work term report and completion of a work term presentation
Co-op Fees:
Students admitted to the Co-op program, will be assessed Co-op fees of $661 for international students or $446 for domestic students for a total of 5 semesters beginning in Winter 2014. Co-op fees are non-refundable and are subject to change.
